Biographical / Historical

Dr. Daniel W. LaRue stands as a foundational figure in the academic history of East Stroudsburg University. A native of Pennsylvania, LaRue’s connection to the institution began early, he graduated as valedictorian from the East Stroudsburg State Normal School. In 1911, Dr. LaRue returned to his alma mater as a faculty member, initially joining the institution as a psychologist, ultimately serving as the head of the Department of Education. His tenure coincided with a period of significant growth and transformation at the university, and his leadership helped shape the academic culture of what would become East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. Dr. LaRue was not only a devoted teacher but also a prolific scholar. He authored several textbooks and contributed widely to educational journals and magazines. His reputation for intellectual rigor and pedagogical innovation earned him a place in Who’s Who, underscoring his impact on the field of education. After nearly four decades of service, Dr. LaRue retired in 1949, leaving behind a legacy of academic distinction and institutional loyalty.
